Your name gets passed on. Then it gets looked up.
Nearly every regular you have started with somebody telling somebody else about you. What happens in the ten minutes after that is the part you never get to see.
If nothing comes back
They find a name with nothing attached to it. So they ask two more people, or they open the app that already has a list, and the recommendation you earned quietly goes nowhere. Nobody rings to tell you that is what happened.
If something does
A page of your own with the work you take on, how often you go in and the areas you cover. They have what they need before they message you, and the ones who do message already fit the round you are trying to fill.
You are never at the other end of that conversation. The page is.
What the page says on your behalf
Set from the few lines you type, and yours to reword whenever you like.
- The work you take on
- Weekly and every-other-week regulars, one-off cleans, and the big one somebody wants before a party or after a move. Written the way people ask for them rather than the way they read on an invoice.
- What you do not do
- Ovens, windows, ironing, laundry, whatever you would rather not be asked for. Saying no on the page is the only thing that stops the call, and it is the fastest way to stop being asked twice.
- How often you go in, and how you get in
- Every week, every other week, once a month. Whether you hold a key, or somebody needs to be home. It is the arrangement a customer settles in their head before they book.
- The areas you cover
- Listed by name. A cleaner is booked by whoever is near enough to keep coming, and this is the line that says whether that is you.
- How you price it
- By the hour, by the visit, or after seeing the place first. Put in whichever is true and the question you get asked most stops being the first thing anybody sends you.
- Your number, and a form that emails you
- Both at the top of every page. Messages land in your inbox, not in an app you have to remember to open.
- Photographs of finished rooms
- The room after the work rather than during it, so the page is not bare on day one. Swapped for your own the day you take some.
- Your own domain, the hosting and the certificate
- Registered, set up and renewed as part of the price. If you already own a name, connect that and it is the one the site uses.
$15 a month, the same at three houses and at thirty
One price for the site, whatever the site brings in. It does not go up when your round does.
- Your own domain name, registered and set up for you
- Live site with hosting, SSL and updates included
- Change any text, photo or colour yourself, anytime
- Contact form that emails you every enquiry
- Cancel anytime, keep your domain
- Nothing comes off what you charge
- No setup fee
- No add-ons
- No contract
- Nothing to build it
They are choosing who is in the house, not who is cheapest
A cleaner gets picked once and kept for years. Almost all of the deciding happens before anybody has met you.
- It is a standing arrangement, not a visit
- The same morning every week, usually while nobody is home. That is a larger thing to hand a stranger than a job that is finished the same afternoon, and it is decided far more carefully.
- Most of it is settled before you speak
- What the work covers, how often you come, how you get in, what it costs. A phone number on its own gives somebody none of that to weigh, so they weigh whoever gave them something.
- In your words, not a template's
- Whatever you want somebody to know before they book goes on the page as you put it. What you are careful about, what you bring, how you like to be paid.
Your customers, and your address, stay yours
Work that comes through somebody else’s app comes with a share taken out of every clean, and the customer at the other end of it is theirs rather than yours. An address of your own has neither of those attached to it.
- Nothing is taken out of a clean
- One monthly price for the site, and no share of what a customer pays you, whether they stay a month or six years.
- The name is yours to take away
- Ask, and the domain moves to a registrar of your choosing. There is no notice period and nothing to settle first.
- Change it yourself, in plain English
- Add a service, drop one, change what you charge, swap a photograph. A real editor on the real site, not a preview you can only look at.
- Stopping is a few clicks
- There is no contract to see out. Cancelling is done from the dashboard and takes about as long as starting did.
The questions that come up
What does it cost?
- $15 every month, and only from the day it goes live. That one price carries the site itself, the hosting, the security certificate and your domain name. There is no setup fee, no add-ons and no contract, and nothing is taken out of what a customer pays you.
Do I pay anything to see it first?
- No. It gets built and you read every page of it before any money changes hands. What is being paid for is the site going live on a domain of your own.
All my work comes from recommendations. Why would I need a website?
- Because a recommendation gets checked before it gets used. Somebody is handed your name, looks it up on the way home, and finds either you or nothing, and the ones that stop there never reach you to be counted. The page is what turns a name being passed on into a message arriving.
I only want a few more houses, not a full diary. Is this too much?
- A few is what it is for. When the page says what you take on, how often you go in and the areas you cover, the people who message you are the ones who already fit the round, and the ones who do not stop before they reach you. It costs the same whether it brings you one house or ten.
Do I have to put my prices on it?
- No. You can say how you price rather than what you charge: by the hour, by the visit, or after seeing the place first. Put in whichever is true and it goes on the page in those words. If you would rather publish a rate, it will do that too.
Can it say what I do not do?
- Yes, and it is worth doing. Ovens, windows, ironing, laundry, whatever you would rather not be asked for: say so and the calls you did not want stop before they reach you. The same goes for anything else you want stated before somebody books, your insurance and any checks you hold included. It prints what you put in the box, in your words, and verifies or awards none of it.
Do I have to put my home address on it?
- No. Plenty of people running this from home list the areas they cover and nothing more precise than that, which is what a customer is looking for anyway. Put in what you are comfortable with and the page uses that and nothing else.
I am not really a computer person.
- If you can write a text message you can do this. There is nothing to design and nothing to save in the right format, and changes afterwards are typed the way you would say them out loud.
What happens to my domain if I stop?
- It stays yours. Say where you want it and it moves there, with no notice period and nothing to settle first.
